With Trafford MV’s pre-season training on the horizon, due to start on Tuesday July 3rd, The team are busy behind the scenes putting steps in place to ensure a good start to their new season in the newly formed Lancashire Leagues.
No more long trips into Cumbria for MV as they have joined other Lancashire Clubs in a more localized League structure. Some old favoured rivalries will be lost but new friendships will be formed once MV find out who their League opponents will be.
Ahead of this announcement MV have taken the initiative and have appointed a new Head Coach Ricky Phillips. Ricky has been assistant coach at a number of clubs and is now taking the opportunity to run the show himself as he heads up MV’s current coaching team of Stuart Crampton, Andy Quigley and Pat Eccles. Ricky will be looking to give MV a new impetus and will be looking to play a ‘heads up’ exciting style of rugby to stimulate both players and spectators at MacPherson Park.
The search is also on to bring new local Rugby talent to the Club. With several well known Rugby playing schools in the borough Trafford MV are looking to grow and develop talented players who want to wear the Black and White shirts with pride. Experienced players are on the list as close season see’s players review their success and failures of seasons past and seek to re-establish where and with whom they want to play their Rugby – is it a job or is it a sport to be enjoyed – that is the question a lot of players should be asking themselves.
Youth is a huge area of potential that MV see’s at first hand with their own conveyor belt of mini junior Rugby feeding through eventually to first team Rugby. Last season saw 7 former Colts play 1st XV grade Rugby at the Club – a massive achievement for both players and Club.
On this front MV are seeking to find young players to feed through their teenage teams – all ages from 13 years through to late teen’s are welcome to get in touch and do some Summer training to get familiar with the Club set up. School leavers are also very much on the clubs target list as school and college players often miss that step into Club Rugby as they finish education and have no pointer where to go to continue their sport.
Trafford MV will be showing an obvious presence over the Summer as being the ‘ Go To ‘ place to play rugby for young players in the Trafford Borough.
Away from 1st XV Rugby MV will field 2nd and 3rd XV’s and would like to hear from new players who want to get into the action at a less frenzied pace than 1st XV level. With an eye to retaining players in the game MV will also look to field a Vets XV on special occasions, hold Walking Rugby for men and women over 50’s on Wed evenings at 6.30pm and Touch Rugby for anyone interested on Thursday evenings at the same time.
On this coming Saturday and Sunday (23/24th) MV will be hosting the England national Touch Series competition at MacPherson Park M33 6LR. Mens and Womens Touch Rugby teams from across the country will play in tournaments over the 2 days starting at 10.00am each day. Admission is free and spectators are welcome. The Club will also show the final Test Match between South Africa Sprinboks vs England kick off 4.05pm
Trafford MV are looking forward to sharing the new season with lots of new players and new spectators who want to share our ambitions of success in Lancashire League Rugby
