Last years Altrincham Christmas lights switch on was all about the star wars guys, everything else and that lame almost unsafe looking stage was average.
This year the organisers of the switch on made it one to remember, well on paper! even before you got near the stage you was welcomed by security fences which we have to say was not really needed.
It is estimated over 1000 was packed into that tight corner of Stamford Quarter, we did ask the question last year about moving the ‘switch on’ to somewhere more appropriate.
Security was tight, for an event like this they made some people feel uneasy, you could see it some people’s faces, this year they picked on photographers, as it happens private security in plain clothes had pretend photographers hanging around, this was just insane.
This was for the kids though and all those in the middle or nearer the shopping area would have had a great time and not known what was going on nearer the stage area.
Altrincham organisers need to get to the bottom of this for next year, maybe employing security that know what they are doing and know how to talk to someone, and when a pop star or some other performer is appearing, it is hoped both security teams actually talk to each other with a plan to look after everyone and not make the place feel sketchy.
Security in this day and age needs to be good it is agreed, we don’t want the paranoid type who were picking on anyone they could find with a camera.
The event was a success despite the issues and we give a big thumbs up to those who managed to get some fairly big names down to perform this year.
We have contacted the organisers and security about the problems our photographer faced.
