The lunch was in aid of Lucy Goldstone, aged 18 and Issac Maley, aged 10 who both passed away suddenly from  severe asthma attacks.  Lucy and Issac’s families have received extraordinary support from Once Upon A Smile and wanted to give something back to the charity, raising both money and awareness of the work it does.

Attended by 300 ladies, the event at the Mere was an enormous success with a large amount of money raised in just a matter of hours.

Organised by Margie Edwards, Lucy’s grandmother, and her two friends Lois Ashton and Sue Sellors, the event included entertainment from Altrincham’s operatic singer Martin Toal, a fashion show with the latest pieces of clothing from Suka Boutique, a raffle and a delicious two course lunch.

Margie said: “It was a wonderful afternoon and a very special girls event in what would have been Lucy’s 21st year.  I am so pleased that managed to raise over £7000 for Once Upon a Smile.  They are an incredible charity with an inspiring team who have helped and supported my whole family since Lucy died.  I am grateful for all those who attended the Ladies Lunch and donated.  It really is much appreciated.”

Once Upon A Smile is a Manchester based charity founded by Daniel Jillings and Danny Miller in 2011.  The charity helps families adjust to life without a loved one, assisting both children and adults and tailoring the support it provides for each individual family.
