The annual and much loved annual Halloween event at Walton Park in Sale has been called off due to the bad weather.
Our photographer went out to have a look and he reported back dreadful conditions in the park with all grass areas water logged and much worse on the football pitch where water comes up to teh ankles in places.
The car park at the back of Walton Sports Centre is flooded, the areas from the canal are also flooded,
A notice from the Freinds of Walton Park said:
“Unfortunately due to bad weatherconditions we have had to cancel tonight’s (Saturday 26th October) event at Walton Park. The trains may still run by S.A.M.E.S but there will be no decorations, funfair rides or refreshments. We apologise for any inconvenience and dissapointment but the conditions mean that it is not safe or practical to go ahead.”
The rain continues to fall and although the weather will improve at some point today the organisers are correct in cancelling this event in the interests of safety.
On Facebook a spokesperson for the freinds group said:
“The rain over the past few days has saturated large areas of the park, meaning it’s impossible to set up the Halloween event safely. We’re as disappointed as you all are – it’s unfortunate the weather has been so awful.”
