Police attended an incident at around 2pm on 22 October 2020 on the Bridgewater Canal towpath at Brooklands in Sale.

People gathered just before the bridge and a canoe was seen in the middle of the canal with the occupant on the other side of the canal tow path.

An eyewitness suggested that a fight had broken out and police were called, police came in full emergency mode, we are told as many as 6 arrived all not wearing masks!

The same person who did not wished to be named told us that she saw a man with a yellow jacket looking a bit shaky with a few tissues near him, although it is not confirmed yet what had happened.

It seems the canoeist boarded a barge heading towards Altrincham from what we can gather.

We have asked Greater Manchester Police for a statement and will update this article when more is known.
