Trafford Council has issued closure orders on two Carpetright stores which were breaking lockdown rules.

Environmental Health officers served notices on the stores in Altrincham and Urmston after finding out they were still trading.

The Council had no options but to close the stores due to government rules that says carpet stores is not an essential service, however Carpetright can still operate a click and collect and a delivery service.

Both stores can reopen on 2 December 2020.

Cllr Mike Freeman, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Public Safety and Governance, said: “We have been told by the Government that carpet shops come under the category of homewear and are therefore not essential. Trafford Council, like other authorities, is following Government guidance on this. We understand that independent carpet store across the borough have closed. People can still buy carpets and accessories via the click and collect and delivery method.”
