Legendary crooner Tony Bennett will turn 95 years old on August 3rd and Trafford’s very own crooner Wayne Devlin is asking for the Trafford community to join him in celebrating the special event by playing or, singing Bennett’s signature song ‘I left my Heart in San Francisco’ at 6pm on the day.
Wayne will be celebrating the birth of his musical idol by performing at Mulino restaurant in his home town of Urmston starting at 6pm with the song that made Bennett a worldwide, household name.
As Tony Bennett announced recently that he is living with Alzheimer’s disease, the event at Mulino will also be a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Society in Bennett’s honour.
Wayne previously sang, non-stop for a full 24 hours, to salute Bennett after first reading about his musical hero’s diagnosis, raising £8,597 for the Alzheimer’s Society in the process. He recieved personal thanks from Bennett and also a letter of support from the Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Wayne is now planning to celebrate the birthday with a performance of classic songs from the Great American Songbook and is asking for all of Trafford to join him at 6pm by playing or indeed singing the classic hit ‘San Francisco’.
Wayne said. ‘As a mark of respect for Tony I would love all of Trafford to take part in this and blast the song so loudly that we can imagine that Tony himself might hear it all the way over in New York!
‘Tony is the only crooner to bridge the generation gap. He has performed with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Count Basie and Ella Fitzgerald but also current artists Michael Bublé, Bono and Lady Gaga. His music is ageless and enjoyed by young and old alike.’
Wayne has a JustGiving page set up for donations and he will also have a collection bucket with him at Mulino to support the Alzheimer’s Society in Bennett’s honour.
You can book a table at Mulino restaurant for the event by telephoning 0161 286 7819 or you can call in to make your donation on the evening.
Wayne praised the support he has received so far by saying. ‘I’d like to thank the Trafford community for supporting my last fundraiser so generously, I am very grateful and I hope I can count on your support just one more time to mark this wonderful artists 95th birthday and help the Alzheimer’s Society in the process.
Tony is the last of the great crooners and I can’t wait to send him our love and best wishes from everyone here in Trafford’.
To take part in this salute, simply play and/or sing Bennett’s song ‘I Left My Heart In San Francisco’ at 6pm on August 3rd.
