Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy aged 27 appeared at Chester Magistrates court this morning after Cheshire police charged him with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault on a girl aged over 16-years-old which was alleged to have occurred sometime between October 2020 and this month Aug 2021.
On news of what happened to Mendy, his club Manchester City has suspended the player and will not be making any comments until an investigation has taken place.
According to a Manchester Evening News reporter who was at the court today, “The defendant strenuously denies the charges against him the court was told.”
The court denied Mendy bail according to the reporter and will stay at a police cell until 10 September 2021 where he will appear at Chester Crown Court.
